Scotties lose ‘horse race’
Lincoln Park (73) Vs. Union (86)
Jan 18, 2012
Union hung in with Lincoln Park before dropping a Section 1-A contest on the road.
The Scotties (1-3, 6-7) were down just seven points going to the fourth quarter before the Leopards pulled away.
“I’m proud of how they played,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “It was a close game all the way.
“I knew if we can break that first line of pressure against them we can get some easy baskets. It was a horse race, back and forth, between both teams. Their press wears you down, but the kids kept battling.”
Lincoln Park (4-0, 10-2) is ranked No. 1 in the WPIAL in Class A by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
“We’ll build off of this game,” Smialowski said. “I’m not into moral victories, but we did a lot of good things.”
Markel Peace poured in a game-high 25 points for the Scotties, nine came in the fourth quarter. Benjamin Young was next with 17 markers and Joe Salmen was next with 13. Drew Robinson tossed in 10.
Trey Hosack netted 23 points for Lincoln Park.
