Josh Tekac’s return couldn’t have come at a better time for Wilmington.
He scored a career-high 16 points in the Greyhounds’ District 10, Region 2-AA home win over Reynolds. The senior also grabbed 11 rebounds and ignited a big second-half rally by scoring 14 in the final two quarters.
Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said the 6-foot-4 Tekac, who missed the first eight games with a torn ligament in his foot, brought a defensive intensity that was lacking in the first half. The Greyhounds (2-0, 5-8) held the Raiders to just two third-quarter points.
“We were just extremely active in that third quarter — making steals, getting tips, grabbing rebounds and not allowing them any second-chance opportunities,” he said. “Tekac was really the catalyst for that. He really played a tremendous game, and that’s what we’ve expected from him. This is only his third week back and he’s starting to get in the flow of things.
Ryan Sager added 15 and Rocco Fagan provided 11 points for Wilmington, which has won two straight after losing seven of their previous eight games. The Greyhounds, who were without Matt Bowen because of an illness, also committed a season-low six turnovers.
