Ellwood City too strong for Mohawk
Ellwood City (48) Vs. Mohawk (36)
Jan 29, 2011
A change in its defensive scheme worked well for the Ellwood City Lincoln High boys basketball team last night.

The Wolverines went on a 13-2 run in the third quarter to take a commanding 16-point lead into the fourth and roll to a 48-36 WPIAL Section 2-AA win over Mohawk. Ellwood City coach Al Campman said Mohawk guard Tim Glass was driving to the hoop with ease, so he decided to get out of a man-to-man defense.

“We went to a zone,” Campman said. “Glass was getting to the basket off the dribble, and (the zone) slowed him down a bit.”

Gino Ceriani hit two 3-pointers for Ellwood City (5-4 section, 8-8 overall), which had lost four of its last five, during the run. He finished with eight points. Brandon Lucarelli led the Wolverines with 12 points.

Glass scored a team-high 12 for the Warriors (1-7, 4-12).
