Will Harris is starting to witness what he had anticipated.
With his entire team together, the Wilmington High boys basketball coach received big performances as his Greyhounds rolled to their first region victory last night on the road.
Wilmington picked up a 50-45 District 10, Region 2-AA win against Lakeview.
“We struggled from the line and we struggled shooting,” said Harris, who had been missing nine football players until Monday. “We had a ton of putbacks and did a great job on the boards.”
Wilmington jumped out to a 28-18 lead at the half.
“We won on pure athleticism and the will not to lose,” Harris said.
“We’re still not there with our basketball skills after having only three practices. A win is still a win and it’s especially nice when it’s in the league.”
Ryan Foht, Chris Burns, Dallas Hartman and Shane Wagner led the way for the ’Hounds (1-0 region, 2-2 overall). Burns, Hartman and Wagner were members of Wilmington’s District 10 and PIAA semifinalist football team.
Foht had 13 points and added 10 rebounds, while Burns scored 11 and grabbed 10 boards. Hartman led the team in rebounding with 13 to go with his nine points.
Wagner lead all scorers with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
Dylan Bertin paced Lakeview with 15 markers.
