Shenango bounced back with a 62-48 nonsection win over host Wilmington last night.
A 59-55 loss to New Brighton on Friday put the Wildcats on the brink of being eliminated from playoff contention, but Shenango responded well in the face of adversity.
“It’s a character game, how are they going to react,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston. “I was pleased with how they responded. They put it behind them and we played a smart game tonight. I thought last night we rushed some stuff and we didn’t do that tonight.”
Christian O’Hara led the charge for the Wildcats with a game-high 22 points. Ryan Smith added 11 points and James Micco tallied 10.
“I talked to him today a little bit and he’s a tough kid,” McQuiston said of O’Hara. “He’s a good leader, getting the guys pumped up. The one thing he’s been doing is dishing out a lot of assists. He’s getting the right people the ball at the right time. We needed him to score and he let the game come to him. He’s a tough kid and you know what youre getting with him.”
Spencer DeMedal responded with 17 points and six rebounds for the ’Hounds.
Wilmington once again started off slow, but was able to bring the Shenango lead down to three points. They couldn’t knock the deficit down anymore, however.
“We just couldn’t make open shots, missed a couple of layups and missed five foul shots,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “We need to step up the scoring and stop the other team on the defensive end.”
