The Lady Lancers came out swinging in the second half of their Section 1-AA win over visiting Laurel.

Neshannock (6-0, 10-1) outscored the Lady Spartans 40-27 in the final 16 minutes following a poor first half.

“We didn’t play very well,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. “It was ugly. We couldn’t hit a shot in the first half and all of our points were from free throws in the first quarter.

“Second half we hit some shots. (Madison McHale) only had nine in the first half. We rebounded pretty well.”

McHale finished with 34 points and 11 rebounds, while Regan Moorhouse totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds.

“We played against (McHale) for four years, she’s a good ball player,” Laurel coach Jessica Shevitz said. “She came out of the locker room and put the game away. Good players do that.”

Leading scorer Ellen Shaffer was held to 11 points for Laurel (1-5, 6-8). With Cassidy Burrelli sitting out with an illness. Erin Warvell stepped up to hold Shaffer in check.

“With Burrelli not playing tonight, Warvell got the job of guarding Ellen,” Grybowski said. “She picked up three fouls in the first half, Ellen had most of her points in the second quarter. Erin came back out and did a great job and we doubled down on her.”

Kristin Dicks also totaled 11 points for the Lady Spartans.
