Jan 05, 2015
Mason Mraz dominated for the Spartans in a nonsection win over the Little Prexies in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic at Burgettstown.
Mraz, a sophomore, netted game-high totals of 36 points and 18 rebounds. He scored 23 of his markers in the first half, including 15 in the second quarter. The 36 points was a career high for Mraz, eclipsing his previous best of 27 from earlier in the year in a win over Summit Academy.
“Mason played excellent for us,” Laurel coach Ken Locke said. “He really picked us up and it shows in the numbers.
“He did everything that needed to be done for us.”
The Spartans (7-3) built a 51-34 halftime advantage and cruised in the second half.
Laurel led 25-17 after one quarter and continued its strong play in the second stanza.
“We played well in the first half,” Locke said. “We wanted to play better defensively in the first half. But offensively and running the floor, we looked fantastic.
“I think it’s a good win for us.”
Scott Siddall supplied 20 points for Laurel and Jacob Wilson added 14 tallies, nine boards and three steals.
Matt Popeck provided 20 markers to lead Washington (4-6).
