Jan 13, 2014
Seairra Barrett poured in a game-high 37 points to lead the Lady Warriors to a Section 2-AAA road win over the Lady Wolverines.
Ellwood City (1-5, 4-9) trailed 20-5 at the end of the first quarter and 35-17 at the break.
Kiana Law contributed 10 points for Central Valley (5-0, 9-3).
“Law and Barrett average 87 percent of Central Valley’s offense,” said first-year Lady Wolverines coach Dena Noble. “I asked my girls to limit them to 75 percent. They kept those two in almost the entire game.
“Law only went out at the end of the fourth quarter after fouling out. Our girls stepped up and limited them to scoring only 72 percent of Central Valley’s points. We held Law to only 10 points, well below her average. We also achieved other team goals (Saturday). Yes, we lost, but we are making progress. That’s all I can ask of this young team.”
Cheyenne Annarumo and Karington Ketterer paced Ellwood City with nine points apiece. Paige Mason was next with eight markers and five rebounds. Allesandra McKelvey notched a team-high eight rebounds with three steals for the hosts.
The Lady Wolverines turned the ball over 31 times.
