Wilmington boys roll
Wilmington (104) Vs. Jamestown (29)
Dec 19, 2013
The visiting Greyhounds raced to 22-6 and 61-8 first-half leads and never looked back in the nonregion victory.
“We sat back in a zone and didn’t push the ball for the entire fourth quarter,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “When you have open looks and open layups, it’s hard to tell the kids not to take them, because they need the work, too.”
Reserve forward Dan Danus posted an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead Wilmington (4-1), while Jordan Smith contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Rocco Fagan posted a game-high 19 points and Travis Brumbaugh and Spencer DeMedal also reached double figures with 17 and 10. Derek Nichols totaled 11 markers for the ’Hounds.
Wilmington made 40 field goals and knocked down 16-of-40 attempts from the free throw line.
“We did some good things,” Jeckavitch said. “We shot really well from the foul line. It was the third straight game that we shot over 75 percent from the line. It’s what we’ll need to do to win ball games down the road.”
