Jan 07, 2008
Hollidaysburg outscored New Castle 29-11 in the second and third quarter to claim a nonsection win.
The Lady ’Canes (9-2) were late arriving to the Lady Tigers’ gym. According to New Castle coach Luann Grybowski, the estimated travel time is 2 hours, 20 minutes but the team couldn’t get a coach bus for the trip. Instead, the team went on a school bus and got lost along the way.
The trip took 3 hours, 15 minutes and the team arrived 15 minutes before the opening tip.
“I was told we couldn’t get a coach (bus),” Grybowski said. “That’s how it goes.
“We started out OK but then we went in the tank in the middle quarters.”
Logan Hartman, a Davidson College recruit, led the Lady ’Canes with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Tasia Wise added 10 markers.
Amanda Ottaway, who also is a Davidson recruit, paced all scorers with 19 points for Hollidaysburg. She snared a game-best 16 boards as well.
“Ottaway is a pretty nice player,” Grybowski said. “Logan did a nice job on her.”
New Castle committed 22 turnovers, compared to 13 for the Lady Tigers. Hollidaysburg (7-2) also won the battle of the boards, 37-24.
“Our three biggest problems are turnovers, boxing out and rebounding,” Grybowski said. “This game should help us in the long run, but every game should help you.”
