Jan 02, 2008
The Union High boys basketball team suffered its third loss of the season last night.
The Scotties dropped a 59-51 WPIAL nonsection defeat to visiting Summit Academy. Union, a Class A team, has lost only to AA teams.
“We just didn’t shoot the ball well and we gave them too many second opportunities,” Scotties coach Dave Smialowski said.
Jason Burkes and Anthony Thomas led Union (8-3) with 12 points apiece.
Markus Allen chipped in with nine rebounds and six points.
Derrick Elliot led the Knights (6-6) with 16 points.
The Scotties return to Section 1-A action at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at Lincoln Park. Union is 5-0 in league play while the Leopards follow at 3-1.
“We don’t like to lose, but our focus is on Friday night,” Smialowski said. “It’s going to be a big one for us.”
