Union (29) Vs. Sewickley (23)
Dec 14, 2012
The visiting Lady Scots knocked off Sewickley Academy in a Section 1-A defensive struggle.
Union got timely baskets from Hannah Booth in the third quarter to seal the win.
“Hannah was getting open shots and knocking them down,” Lady Scots coach Brian Fadden said. “She played very well (last night).”
Defense played a huge role in a 10-9 Lady Panthers halftime lead.
“They were playing a 1-3-1 zone,” Fadden said. “We really struggled with it in the first half.”
The Lady Scots (1-0, 2-2) erased the deficit with a 12-point third quarter. Union’s defense kept Sewickley Academy (0-1, 2-2) to 13 points in the second half.
“We emphasized making better decisions at halftime. We were forcing a lot of passes in the first half,” Fadden said. “Our defense kept us in the game. We were able to contain them most of the night. That gave us the opportunity to win.”
Marissa Heaney added seven points for the Lady Scots.
