Lady Lancers top Laurel
Neshannock (69) Vs. Laurel (52)
Jan 17, 2012
Neshannock won a key Section 2-AA home clash with Laurel by dominating the second and third quarters — and the Lady Lancers did it without their leading scorer.
Neshannock outscored the Lady Spartans, 49-24, in the middle quarters after struggling to start the game. The Lady Lancers, who were without Madison McHale (out with a rib injury), trailed 10-6 after the first period.
“We were a little bit out of sync without McHale,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. “But we just played exceptional in the second and third quarters. Just exceptional. We had five different people score in both of those quarters. We passed the ball really well, found the open man and knocked down some key shots.”
Neshannock’s Marissa DeMatteo led all scorers with 22 points (scoring 10 in the second and 10 in the third) and also had seven steals and five assists. Alexandra Fischer contributed 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals, and Tayler Grybowski added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Lady Lancers (2-3, 6-8).
Ellen Shaffer paced Laurel (2-4, 6-8) with 12 points, while Aislinn Deinert provided 11.
