Beaver rolled to a victory over a Lady Wildcats team that’s trying to play through a rash of injuries in the Penn State-Beaver Christmas Tournament.

Shenango (1-6) played without Briana Ferrucci, Amanda Herb, Justine Razo and Lauren Pruchnic, all because of injuries. Lady Wildcats coach Brian Turk said Pruchnic is out with an ankle injury that may end her season.

“We’re pretty beat up right now,” Turk said. “I have freshmen that are having to step up and play varsity ball. They’re being forced to get caught up in this awfully quick.

“Injuries make it tough. We’ve had one thing after another with the injuries. But we’ll get through it.”

Jenna Petrucci led Shenango with nine points.

Elizabeth Dragonjac and Lexi Posset netted 13 points each to pace the Lady Bobcats (5-2), who are coached by former Neshannock bench boss Greg Huston.

“Beaver is a good team. Greg Huston does a great job with those girls,” Turk said. “Those girls took it to our young team; that’s what they’re supposed to do.

“His team came ready to play. Hopefully it will be good for our young kids down the road.”

The Lady Wildcats trailed 17-3 after the first quarter and 40-10 at the half.

“We’re just out of sync right now,” Turk said. “We’re playing girls that are being forced to play a faster-paced game.

“Maybe by the time we get back in section play we’ll be able to get some girls healthy and put up some better numbers on the board.”

Shenango returns to action at 4 p.m. tomorrow when it battles Rochester in the tournament. The Lady Rams lost to Kennedy Catholic yesterday, 69-41.
