Feb 11, 2011
Union ended the season on a high note by beating Western Beaver in Section 1-A action.
The Lady Scots trailed, 14-12, entering the second period, but they outscored Western Beaver, 18-6, to take a 10-point lead into halftime. Union coach Brian Fadden said the Lady Scots showed more defensive intensity in the second frame.
“The game really changed in the second quarter with our pressure defense,” he said. “We really took control from there. We got some rebounds, got out in transition and made some easy baskets.”
Savannah Partridge led Union (2-10, 4-17) with 18 points. Miranda Heaney contributed 13 points.
Western Beaver (0-12, 0-20) cut the Lady Scots’ lead to seven in the fourth quarter, but Union didn’t panic and persevered for the victory.
“We played pretty well for most the game,” Fadden said. “We stuck to our gameplan. We got out in transition, and we ran the offense and got some points that way as well. It was a good way for us to end the season.”
