Mohawk girls get big victory
Mohawk (64) Vs. Western Beaver (25)
No one needed this one as badly as the Mohawk High girls basketball team.
The Lady Warriors snapped a six-game losing streak in a big way, dominating Western Beaver, 64-25, in the Penn State-Beaver Holiday Tournament.
Fourteen players scored for the Lady Warriors (3-6) and three reached double figures. Mohawk, which hadn’t won since the second game of the year, led 27-12 at the half and never let up, dominating the third quarter, 24-8.
“We probably needed this win more than any team in Pennsylvania,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said. “I don’t know if we were tired of losing or what. We just needed this win, and maybe we took out six losses in a row tonight.”
Devon Giancola paced the Lady Warriors with 12. Brooke Shasteen added 10 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Lucia Fee tacked on 10 points, and Shelby Brown provided six points, seven assists and six steals.
Western Beaver had 41 turnovers, many of which were forced by an aggressive Mohawk defense, O’Lare said.
