Jan 27, 2011
Shenango won its seventh straight and tuned up for a showdown with Summit Academy in a nonsection win over Wilmington.
Jeff Williams led the Wildcats (11-6) with a game-high 22 points and four assists. Shenango led by nine at halftime and put the game out of reach in the third by outscoring the Greyhounds, 22-9.
“Our confidence is up, and I think that comes from working hard at practice,” Wolverines coach Bob McQuiston said. “I’m really proud of the effort, and that’s key because you’re going to make mistakes, but you can overcome those mistakes when you’re playing hard.”
Mike Linz contributed 11 points for Shenango. Josh Tekac paced Wilmington (6-9).
The Wildcats are currently in a fourth-place tie with Ellwood City in WPIAL Section 2-AA. They take on second-place Summit Academy on Friday on the road.
“We’re playing with a lot of confidence right now and doing a lot of good things,” McQuiston said. “They came to our place and beat us pretty good last time, so we have go there and continue to play how we have been.”
