Mohawk (46) Vs. Shenango (32)
Jan 19, 2011
Shelby Brown helped Mohawk get into the win column in Section 2-AA action.
Brown netted 13 of her game-high 16 points in the first half, lifting the Lady Warriors to a win over Shenango. She added five rebounds as well.
“Shelby was the key for us,” Mohawk coach Mike O’Lare said. “She played extremely well and I’m really proud of her.
“We knew we had to win this one to keep our foot in the door and keep it open a little bit. It still gives us hope that we can turn this around.”
Mohawk (1-5, 4-10) led 15-7 after the first quarter and 24-14 at the break.
“On the offensive end, we’ve been preaching to get off to a strong start and we did that,” O’Lare said. “That’s been a key to our team, getting off to a slow start like we have in the first and third quarters.”
Meghan Laughner followed with nine points and eight boards for the Lady Warriors.
Jenna Petrucci paced the Lady Wildcats (0-6, 2-12) with 10 markers and Amanda Herb pulled down nine rebounds.
“This was two teams battling to get a win and trying to get some rhythm,” Shenango coach Brian Turk said. “We played a very good team and I expected a battle from a team that is better than their record.
“We gave away a couple of opportunities and we had a tough time stopping Shelby Brown. They did a very good job keeping us off the boards; we need those second chances and we just didn’t get them.”
