Wilmington (37) Vs. Laurel (36)
Jan 17, 2011
Grace Gealy sank a putback with two seconds left to propel Wilmington past Laurel in nonsection action.
The basket was Gealy’s lone points of the game. The Lady Greyhounds rolled to a 48-35 win over the Lady Spartans in the Union Booster Tournament in the previous encounter.
“That was a great time for Grace to get her only basket,” Wilmington coach Brandy Sanford said. “I did expect a much better game this time. Both teams are progressing and coming together as a team.”
Aislinn Deinert made a field goal with 15 seconds left to put Laurel (4-8) up 36-35.
“We called the right play, but we ran it too good and left them with 15 seconds left,” Lady Spartans coach Jessica Shevitz said.
Alanna Elliott netted 12 points for the Lady Greyhounds and Julie Burns was next with 11 markers and 14 rebounds. Mackenzie Hiers snared 12 boards for the victors.
Deinert recorded her second straight double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Spartans. Marisa Wallas followed with nine points and four assists.
“Aislinn is coming alive for us; she was awesome,” Shevitz said.
