Jan 14, 2011
Neshannock put together an impressive second half and rolled past the Lady Warriors in Section 2-AA action.
The Lady Lancers held a sizable advantage at halftime, but still had 10 turnovers at the break. Neshannock (4-1, 10-2) reduced that number to three in the second half and used a solid defensive effort to beat Mohawk (0-5, 3-10).
“We were just trying to force passes and we had a lot of fumbles — we just weren’t catching the ball,” said Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski of the first half. “We made some steals up front and got some easy layups (in the second half). And we pressured the ball a little bit more in the half court — we had at least seven steals in the fourth quarter.”
Ericka Warvell paced Neshannock with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Chelsea Kauffman struck for 14 points and five steals, and Marianne Piatek grabbed seven boards, four steals and six points. Caitlin Binder added 10 points and five steals for Neshannock, which shot 21 of 56 form the field. Neshannock had 13 turnovers.
Devon Giancola’s 12 points paced Mohawk, which committed 22 turnovers.
