Ambridge runs past Ellwood
Ambridge (68) Vs. Ellwood City (44)
Jan 14, 2011
Ambridge always had an answer for Ellwood City Lincoln in its Section 2-AAA victory.
Every time the Lady Wolverines moved within striking distance, Ambridge went on a run. The Lady Bridgers (4-1, 8-3) trailed by two in the first quarter before going on a 7-0 run, and when Ellwood City (1-5, 6-8) pulled within two in the second quarter, Ambridge again went on a 7-0 run.
“We hung with them and played well at times,” Lady Wolverines coach Bill Gottuso said. “We just kept making unforced errors. We were throwing passes that we shouldn’t have been throwing and trying to do too much. It wasn’t a lack of effort, it was a lack of execution.”
Michelle Nocera led Ellwood City with 11 points. She now has 951 career points. Asia Borders contributed eight points and seven rebounds, and Nicole Nocera provided seven points, six assists and four steals.
Ambridge, which led 39-24 at halftime after another scoring spree, had three players in double figures, led by Sam Santiago’s 20 points.
