Summit Academy downs Laurel
Summit Academy (59) Vs. Laurel (47)
Jan 12, 2011
Summit Academy erased a two-point deficit by outscoring Laurel 20-9 in the second quarter en route to a Section 2-AA win.

The Spartans (1-3, 3-9) could only get as close as six points in the second half.

“I thought overall, we’re playing hard,” Laurel coach Mike Tinstman said. “We just made some careless mistakes and gave them some easy shots and layups.

“In the first quarter, we controlled the ball well and played good defense. We just made some mental mistakes with the ball in the second quarter and it hurt us.”

Chad Long led the Spartans with 13 points and four assists. Ryan Melichar and Josh Dando contributed eight markers apiece. Melichar also posted eight rebounds and four blocks.

Arley Townsend posted a game-best 22 points for the Knights (4-1, 7-4).
