Lady Lancers lose first game
Sharpsville (51) Vs. Neshannock (43)
Dec 31, 2010
Neshannock went cold in the fourth quarter and lost its first game of the season in the championship of the Neshannock Christmas Tournament.

The Lady Lancers (6-1) entered the fourth with a 38-32 lead but were outscored, 19-5. Sharpsville (5-1) led by two with 3:30 remaining and took control after Neshannock leading scorer Chelsea Kauffman fouled out moments later.

Lady Lancers coach Luann Grybowski pointed to the 39-15 rebounding edge as the cause for the loss.

“They were just relentless attacking the offensive boards and we weren’t,” she said. “We couldn’t hit a shot, either. We were 2 for 12 in the fourth.”

Kauffman’s 20 points tied for the game high. Ericka Warvell, who played sparingly due to an injury and foul trouble, provided 15 points. Neshannock led 22-10 in the second quarter, but the Lady Blue Devils’ McKenzie Popapak, the tournament’s MVP, scored 16 of 20 in the second half.

Kauffman, Marianne Piatek and Dominique Sheldone were named to the all-tournament team for the Lady Lancers.
