Lady Lancers 'win ugly'
Neshannock (50) Vs. Quaker Valley (45)
Dec 23, 2010
Neshannock led by as many as 22, but the Lady Lancers had to hold on after a comeback by Quaker Valley.

Neshannock was up, 42-20, midway through the third quarter, but as coach Luann Grybowski said, that’s when “the bottom fell out.” The Lady Quakers outscored the Lady Lancers, 14-5, in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to two with 2:30 remaining. Yet, Neshannock made a few free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

“We came out in the third quarter and really played well,” Grybowski said. “We had 17 turnovers overall, and I bet we had 12 of the 17 in the second half. Our shooting was horrendous. We went 20 of 64 for the game.”

Ericka Warvell powered the Lady Lancers (5-0) with 26 points and 13 rebounds. She scored 11 of their 19 third-quarter points. Chelsea Kauffman also notched a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

“Sometimes you have to win ugly,” Grybowski said. “It’s the day before break and all that stuff. We played well in spurts, but not consistent enough for me.”
