Jeff Williams helped Shenango High’s boys basketball team get off to a strong start in section play last night.
Williams bucketed 12 of his game-high 21 points in the first quarter as the Wildcats posted a 48-29 WPIAL Section 2-AA win over Laurel.
“I thought Jeff did a real nice job,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “He was on fire and the guys did a a real nice job of finding him.
“Coming into section play, you always want to open on a high note. I thought we were ready to go and our kids were really fired up to play against Laurel.”
Williams’ 12 first-quarter markers helped Shenango (1-0 section, 3-1 overall) forge a 14-8 margin after one period. He was 6 of 11 from the field for the game.
Brett Chieze contributed 10 markers for the winners, while Mike Linz added eight rebounds.
Todd Fennick and Chad Long netted 10 points each for the Spartans (0-1, 0-4).
