Jenna Petrucci recorded 18 points to lead Shenango to a 56-46 victory over Union in the Mohawk Tipoff Classic.
Amanda Herb was next for the Lady Wildcats with 15 markers and Briana Ferrucci added 12.
“I’m really proud of the girls; they showed up to play,” said Terri Lincoln, serving as Shenango’s interim coach with Brian Turk out of town. “We’re very excited with what the girls showed tonight. I thought they showed a lot of heart.”
Savannah Partridge paced all scorers with 22 points for the Lady Scots, 14 of which came in the first half.
Both teams struggled at the foul line. Shenango was 15 of 31 from the stripe, compared to 7 of 19 for Union.
“We struggled with our foul shooting and we struggled to rebound and defend in the second half,” Lady Scots coach Brian Fadden said. “We played hard and we were competitive.
“We just need to work on our defense and rebounding. There was a lot of encouraging things I saw from our team. We looked more aggressive and we look like we know what we’re doing.”
