Wilmington falls to Girard
Girard (56) Vs. Wilmington (32)
Dec 10, 2010
Wilmington couldn’t make up for the loss of Daryl Pace in a 56-32 loss to Girard in the Jamestown Tipoff Tournament.
Pace, the Greyhounds’ leading returner in points and rebounds, was sick with the flu. Early on, Wilmington worked through the loss of the forward, taking a 12-8 lead early in the second quarter. Yet, turnovers and foul trouble to fellow returning starter Anthony Derrick quickly led to a Girard run that gave it a 30-24 halftime lead.
“We had 23 turnovers as a team,” Wilmington coach Mike Jeckavitch said. “If we can’t take care of the ball, we’re not going to win many ballgames.”
The Yellowjackets dominated the second half, outscoring Wilmington, 34-17, to seal the victory. Matt Bowen led the Greyhounds with 17 points and five rebounds. Anthony Stuart paced Girard with 16 points.
