The Ellwood City Lincoln High boys basketball team’s playoff hopes suffered a blow last night.
Blackhawk rallied in the second half to post a 52-39 WPIAL Section 2-AAA victory.
The Wolverines (3-7, 7-12) led 25-16 at the half before being outscored 23-5 in the third quarter.
Ellwood City remains one game behind Ambridge (4-6, 10-8) for the final playoff spot with two section games left. The teams split the season series. Should they finish in a tie, both squads will qualify for the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs.
Wolverines coach Jason Bumblis declined comment.
Blackhawk (8-2, 12-7) is in third place, a game behind section-leading Hopewell (9-1, 15-5) and a half-game behind second-place Center (8-1, 13-4).
Brandon Lucarelli paced Ellwood City with 15 points, all of which came in the first half on 3-pointers.
Tim Denman led all scorers with 18 points for the Cougars.
