Ellwood stays in playoff hunt with win
Ellwood City (51) Vs. Beaver (44)
Feb 03, 2010
The Wolverines earned an important Section 2-AA win over Beaver.

Gino Ceriani tallied 19 points to help Ellwood City Lincoln (3-6, 6-11) leap over New Castle for fifth place in the section.

The Wolverines hold a half-game lead over the Red Hurricane and trail fourth-place Ambridge (4-6, 10-8) for the final playoff spot.

Ellwood City and Ambridge split their meetings this season. If the teams tie for fourth place at the end of the regular season, both will go to the playoffs.

“We’re finding ways to win,” Ellwood City coach Jason Bumblis said.

Ceriani hit a crucial layup with a minute remaining and then collected a steal and a three-point play to put the Wolverines up four with 40 seconds left.

Ryan Horgan and Cody Mittica added 10 points apiece for Ellwood City.

Will Hazlett led Beaver (0-10, 2-16) with nine points.
