Jan 15, 2010
The Union High boys basketball team came back with a vengeance.
The Scotties rebounded from a sluggish performance in a loss to Lincoln Park on Tuesday to knock off Monaca 91-43 in WPIAL Section 1-A action.
“I was just happy with the way the kids responded after the other night against Lincoln Park,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said of that 80-39 loss. “I told them now we’ll see what we’re made of.”
Smialowski’s entire bench — 18 players strong — saw action for the Scotties (1-1 in the section, 10-1 overall). Anthony Thomas led the way with 31 points, while Devonta Thomas and Nate Majors added 11 apiece and Damian Trott chipped in with nine.
Thomas was 12 for 21 from the floor.
“It was the first time we got a chance to play everybody and it was good to see what some of them could do,” Smialowski said. “We were 37 for 63 from the floor, which I was pretty happy with.”
Nate Lalama had 16 points and Robert Foster chipped in with 13 for Monaca (0-3, 3-12).
