Neshannock (64) Vs. Riverside (60)
Jan 12, 2010
Neshannock regrouped in overtime to knock off Riverside in Section 2-AA action. It’s the first win for the Lady Lancers on the Lady Panthers’ floor since 2005.
The Lady Lancers missed three front-ends of a one-and-one in the last 30 seconds of regulation while nursing a two-point lead. The Lady Panthers snared the rebound off the third miss and Sam Weir hit a basket at the buzzer and got fouled to tie the game.
However, Weir missed her foul shot to force overtime.
“I thought she was going to drain that foul shot,” Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said.
Neshannock posted field goals on its first two possessions of overtime and never looked back.
“This was a huge win for us,” Grybowski said. “The kids never gave up; it was a total team effort.”
Ericka Warvell recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds for Neshannock (2-3, 6-5). Chelsea Kauffman and Marianne Piatek contributed 13 points each, while Ashley Patton tossed in 12 with four steals.
“We haven’t been getting a whole lot of scoring outside of Warvell and Kauffman,” Grybowski said. “I just put it out there that I need 18 points from a combination of three players, no matter how I get it.”
Weir netted 19 points for Riverside (2-2, 5-5).
