Laurel boys beat Wilmington
Laurel (64) Vs. Wilmington (43)
Dec 29, 2009
Tyler Forbes and the Spartans upended Wilmington in the opening round of the Union Booster Tournament.
Forbes was assigned to Jake DeMedal and limited the Greyhounds’ main offensive threat to 15 points. Forbes also tallied 16 points and four assists.
“We had to work hard from keeping him from having a big game,” Laurel coach Mike Tinstman said of DeMedal. “We knew he was the star from last year. Overall, I was pleased with how Tyler (guarded him).”
The Spartans, which have won three of their last four contests, snapped the ’Hounds’ three-game winning streak.
Tinstman said Laurel (4-2) had one of its best shooting nights of the season, evidenced by the Spartans’ 67 percent from the field.
Wilmington (3-2) was limited to only 14 field goals the entire game.
“It was a good win for us,” Tinstman said. “But we’re still making some mistakes that we have to correct.”
Shane Caldararo notched 10 points and 11 rebounds for Laurel and Eric Wallas added 10 points and four assists.
Anthony Derrick had 13 points for Wilmington.
