Tournament MVP Kaylynn Waters had a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady ’Canes to the championship of their own tournament.

New Castle (2-0) cruised to a 38-13 halftime lead and rolled to the win over the Lady Indians (1-1).

LaShauna Brothers had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Lady ’Canes, while JaNia McPhatter added 10 points. Both players made the all-tournament team. Christina Talbert had eight points, four assists and four steals.

“I think, defensively, our pressure wore them down,” New Castle coach Jason Rankin said. “There were some good hustle plays that won’t make the papers. I am happy with the effort and happy we got the chance to play everybody.”

New Castle returns to action tonight at home against North Catholic.
