Mohawk edges Beaver
Mohawk (53) Vs. Beaver (51)
Dec 11, 2009
The Warriors’ Jake Grim stole the ball and went end to end for a game-winning bucket at the buzzer in Mohawk’s 53-51 win over Beaver.
The play capped a sizzling all-around effort for the 6-foot-1 senior guard in the Riverside Shootout. Grim finished with 36 points, 13 rebounds and eight steals.
“Jake is a special player,” head coach Kevin Wrona said. “He definitely has the potential to play at the next level and, despite having 36 points, he was very unselfish as well.”
The Warriors carried a 40-21 lead into the final frame, only to be outscored 30-13 by the Bobcats.
“We played nine kids, seven of which have no varsity basket experience,” Wrona said. “We got off to a real good start, got some nice separation from them — and then things got a little more interesting than we would have liked.
“I think our inexperience started to show. Beaver stepped up their pressure, and we made some not real good decisions. And it seemed like every time we turned the ball over, they scored off it. But when push came to shove, we made one more play than them. I’m just glad No. 1 (Grim) plays for us.”
Mohawk moves on to play Portersville Christian at 4:30 p.m. today.
