Laurel outscored Ellwood City 20-9 in the fourth period to rally for a nonsection win.
The Lady Spartans trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking the lead for good with six minutes to play.
“I thought we played really hard,” Laurel coach Jennifer McGarrah said. “We had a rough first half but we came out in the second half and the defense came through.”
Laurel forced 24 turnovers.
“We kept chipping away at the deficit,” McGarrah said. “We’re playing for pride since we’re not in the postseason and we showed a lot of character.”
Becca Kerr paced the Lady Spartans (5-12) with 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, while Nicolette McCormick was next with 13 markers.
Jackie Schlemmer pulled down a game-best 12 boards for the winners.
Michelle Nocera netted 12 markers for the Lady Wolverines (5-15), while Beth Roitz and Alexandra Capalbo added 10 apiece.
