The playoffs are still a possibility for the Union High girls basketball team.
The Lady Scots continued their roll in WPIAL Section 1-A by earning a 62-30 home win against Western Beaver last night.
“I think unless the unforeseen happens, we should still make the playoffs,” first-year Union coach Damian Cassano said. “That’s something that hasn’t happened in a long time here at Union.
“The girls have been working hard, so it would be a nice reward.”
Union last made the playoffs during the 1996-97 season when it went 2-8 in Section 2-AA/A and 9-13 overall. The Lady Scots were eliminated by Monaca in the first round, 66-42.
“Things are starting to click,” Cassano said. “We’re getting comfortable out there and knowing where people are at and knowing what we can do as a team.”
Union (5-3 section, 7-9 overall) jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 28-10 advantage at the half.
Savannah Partridge led all scorers with 22 points and added eight rebounds and six steals.
Bridget Boyles followed with 14 points and nine rebounds. Kaylin Clingensmith added 10 points and five steals.
Noelle Hannon led the team in rebounds with 16 to go with her four points.
Mallory Speerhas led Western Beaver (2-7, 2-14) with 10 points.
Quigley (8-0) remains in first place followed by Rochester (7-2), Union and Sewickley (4-4).
