Wilmington crushes Commodore

Haley Marett paced a balanced Wilmington attack with 19 points in an easy District 10 nonregion win over Commodore Perry.

Marett added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals as well.

Ashley Gardner chipped in with 18 markers, five boards and five steals for the Lady Greyhounds (5-8).

“I thought Haley played her best game all year,” Lady Greyhounds coach Brian Turk said. “Haley and Ashley both had an outstanding game for us.”

Mariah Burns added 11 markers, four steals and four rebounds for the winners.

Jessica McLain led the Lady Commodores with eight points.

The Lady Greyhounds were 22 of 86 from the floor, while pulling down 43 rebounds. They also struggled at the foul line, converting 12 shots in 24 attempts.

“I wasn’t tickled to death with our foul shooting,” Turk said. “We have to start knocking them down.

“A win is a win and we’ll move on. Hopefully it’s the momentum we need.”
