Jan 17, 2009
Shenango’s Rich Gaston recorded game-high totals of 29 points and 15 rebounds in a Section 2-AA win over Summit Academy.
Gaston was 15 of 21 from the foul line, including 7 of 10 in the fourth quarter.
“I thought Rich played a tremendous game; he was posting up strong,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said.
Mike Murcko was next with 21 points for the Wildcats (3-4, 6-9) and Bobby Gwin handed out six assists.
“Gwin did a nice job of getting us into our offense,” McQuiston said. “We got a little more scoring from others and that was big, too.”
Keith Bonichar paced the Knights (3-4, 4-10) with 14 markers.
The win snaps a five-game losing streak and propels Shenango into a third-place tie with Rochester and Summit Academy.
“This was a good win for us and it puts us back in the hunt,” McQuiston said. “I thought our guys really played well.”
