Chaz Roth helped the Ellwood City Lincoln High boys basketball team come up big in the second half.
Trailing by one to Neshannock at halftime of last night’s WPIAL nonsection game, the Wolverines battled back to take a 57-51 victory.
“We played hard down the stretch and played smart,” Ellwood City coach Jason Bumblis said. “We played well and it was a team effort all the way through.”
Roth turned in a game-high 23-point effort for the Wolverines (4-10).
He scored 10 in the second half, including six points in the fourth quarter where Ellwood City outscored the Lancers, 20-15.
“Chaz really put us on his back and worked it there,” Bumblis said. “More than his points, he came up big defensively and stepped it up, stopping their scorers.”
Nine of the Wolverines’ 20 fourth-quarter points came from the foul line. Ellwood City converted 9 of 17 in the final period and shot 17 of 28 in the game.
Bryce Kauffman led Neshannock (9-5) with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Bobby Nittinger followed with 16 points.
