Jan 13, 2009
Laurel High’s Tyler Forbes came through in the clutch last night.

Forbes sank a tip-in with 1.8 seconds to play to propel the Spartans to a 58-56 victory over Shenango in a WPIAL Section 2-AA game.

“The players came out and played well for four quarters,” Laurel coach Mike Tinstman said. “This was a good, hard-fought game that came down to the last second; it’s a great win for us.”

Laurel led most of the way. Shenango took a two-point lead with around two minutes left. The Spartans’ Eric Wallas got a basket in transition to tie the score, setting up Forbes’ heroics.

Jake Dando registered 17 points for Laurel (2-4 section, 6-7 overall) and Wallas was next with 14. Forbes contributed 11.

Rich Gaston led all scorers with 29 points for the Wildcats (2-4, 5-8), while Mike Murcko chipped in with 19.

The loss is the fifth straight for Shenango.
