Summit Academy takes down Spartans
Laurel (49) Vs. Summit Academy (73)
Jan 09, 2009
Second-half play hurt the Laurel High boys basketball team last night.
The Spartans managed to score just 16 points in the second half of the WPIAL Section 2-AA contest, including four points in the fourth quarter, and lost at Summit Academy, 73-49.
“We shot well early, but we didn’t shoot well enough,” said Laurel coach Mike Tinstman, whose team trailed 40-33 at the intermission. “It’s tough to win when you only score 16 points in the second half. Plus, they hurt us on the boards.”
The Knights (3-3 section, 4-8 overall) owned the rebounding advantage over the Spartans (1-4, 5-7), 36-28.
“But a lot of those were offensive rebounds,” Tinstman said. “They wore us out. It was a hard-fought game. Summit shot well and played extremely well.”
Tyler Forbes led Laurel with 15 points and Jake Dando chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Keith Bonichar guided Summit Academy with a game-high 26 points.
