Union (64) Vs. Summit Academy (60)
Jan 08, 2009
Union switched to a zone in the second quarter to slow up Summit Academy and claim a nonsection win.
The Scotties (8-5) trailed 26-17 after one quarter but held the Knights (3-8) to just six second-quarter markers to trail 32-30 at the break.
“We stayed in a zone the rest of the game,” Union coach Dave Smialowski said. “It helped us make a comeback; it’s always nice to win.”
The Scotties, who trailed most of the game, took the lead for good in the final two minutes.
Jason Burkes recorded a team-best 18 points with seven assists for Union. He was 5 of 8 from 3-point range as well.
“Burkes has really shot well the last couple of games,” Smialowski said. “He has that touch right now and it’s going in pretty easy right now; he’s playing at a high level.”
Nick DeCesare was next with 15 points and Anthony Thomas added 12 markers and six assists. Matt Ault contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
Derrick Rawls netted 18 points for Summit Academy.
