The Lady ’Canes picked up their first Section 2-AAA victory of the season.

New Castle (1-1, 9-1) committed 20 turnovers but forced 33 turnovers.

“It just seemed like a race to the foul line with turnover after turnover,” Lady ’Canes coach Luann Grybowski said. “We still played through a lot. They made a run at us to cut the lead and we got right back at it.

“Sometimes I have to remember how young this lineup is. They made mistakes, but they still played through it.”

Shelby Rodgers shot an impressive 7 of 10 from the floor to lead New Castle with 16 points. She also had eight rebounds and four steals.

LaShauna Brothers had a double-double, scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds. She also had five steals.

JaNia McPhatter had 11 points, while Jazelle Dennis chipped in with six assists and three steals to go with her seven points.

Olivia Thomas led Center (0-2, 5-4) with 12 points and Tori Evans followed with 10 markers.
