Shenango holds off Neshannock
Shenango (41) Vs. Neshannock (39)
Dec 17, 2008
Saved by the buzzer.
In a game that went down to the final second, the Shenango High boys basketball team squeezed past Neshannock, 41-39, last night in a nonsection game.
It wasn’t decided until Bobby Nittinger’s 3-point desperation attempt with seven-tenths of a second remaining missed its target.
“It went back and forth the entire game,” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “We knew it would be that type of game. It’s still a rivalry, even though we’re not in the same section anymore.”
Mike Murcko paced the Wildcats (3-3) with a double-double, scoring 20 points and snaring 10 rebounds.
“Murcko, once again, stepped up with a good game,” McQuiston said. “Richie (Gaston) got into foul trouble in the third quarter, so Murcko stepped up when we really needed it.”
Gaston had 12 points.
Nittinger led the Lancers (3-3) with 15 points and Tony Kirkwood added 12.
“Our guards played good defense,” McQuiston said.
