Shenango boys fall to Mars
Shenango (50) Vs. Mars (53)
Dec 10, 2008
The Wildcats committed 30 turnovers en route to dropping a second straight nonsection game.

“I thought we bounced back a little from a tough loss (to Ellwood City Lincoln on Tuesday),” Shenango coach Bob McQuiston said. “We were down by 10 at one point and we could have easily packed it in, but we made it a game.

“Turnovers hurt us.”

Rich Gaston turned in a double-double, scoring 17 points and snaring 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (2-2).

Mike Murcko had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Bobby Gwin chipped in with 12 markers.

Shenango outscored Mars in the fourth quarter 20-18, but the Planets made 9 of 12 attempts from the foul line to hold on.

“We put them at the line and they were making them,” McQuiston said. “I’m still pleased with the effort because they didn’t quit.

“We got better and that’s the important thing.”

Christian Locher led Mars with 22 points, including four 3-pointers.
