Burrelli propels Neshannock girls to victory
Neshannock (46) Vs. Central Valley (27)
Feb 11, 2017
Bella Burrelli stepped up for the Neshannock High girls basketball team on Saturday.

Burrelli, a sophomore forward, delivered 21 points, 14 rebounds and three steals to lead the Lady Lancers to a 46-27 non-section home win over Central Valley.

"I thought Bella played so well," Neshannock coach Luann Grybowski said. "She plays so hard and she brings so much energy.

"She's always talking on defense and diving on the floor. Sometimes that's contagious. She's a competitor and she plays that way every day."

Though the Lady Lancers (21-1) won by 19 points, Grybowski noted her team's performance could have been better.

Neshannock was 14 of 53 from the field, the worst of the season. And the Lady Lancers tied their season-worst in turnovers with 15.

"It wasn't a great performance but it is a good win for us," she said. "Central Valley isn't a bad team. They were aggressive defensively.

"It wasn't up to my expectations. We missed a lot of layups. It was sloppy and definitely not where you want to be at this time of the year."

Neshannock led 11-7 after one quarter and 27-14 at the half. The Lady Lancers held a 33-22 lead going to the final frame.

Carmie Matarazzo netted seven points with eight rebounds and four assists for Neshannock, while Aidan Noga notched six points and handed out a team-best seven assists.

Allyson Kirby collected a team-high 10 points for the Lady Warriors (14-6).
The WPIAL will release the playoff pairings on Tuesday and Neshannock will receive a high seed.

"We're going to get a bye; we'll be in the top four (seeds)," Grybowski said. "We'll be sitting until Feb. 23 or so. I think we've been playing well and we're excited for the postseason."
