The Wilmington High boys basketball team kept its playoff hopes alive Saturday.

Shane Wagner netted a game-high 19 points to lead the Greyhounds to a 59-44 verdict over Sharpsville in a District 10, Region 2-AA contest.

The game was an afternoon affair following Wilmington’s 75-59 loss the night before against Farrell.

“It was a big game,” Wilmington coach Will Harris said. “I was a little concerned with us being ready to play that early and it was a must win for us.

“The kids showed a lot of resilience in coming back and playing a great game against Sharpsville.”

Dallas Hartman chipped in 17 points and a game-best 11 rebounds for the Greyhounds (7-5 region, 10-10 overall). Carson Sharbaugh added 14 markers.

“Sharbaugh really stepped up,” Harris said. “Sharpsville started in a 1-2-2 zone focusing on Shane Wagner.

“Carson stepped up and hit some shots for us; it’s nice to see that balance.”

Lee Holt tallied 10 points for the Blue Devils (2-10, 6-13).

Wilmington has four region games left. According to Harris, if the Greyhounds win three of four, they will qualify for the District 10 playoffs.

“If we only get two of the four, then certain things have to happen,” he said. “We’re right where we need to be at this point; we control our own destiny.”
