Neshannock defeats Ellwood City
Neshannock (58) Vs. Ellwood City (51)
Jan 26, 2008
Neshannock held a 14-point lead after three quarters and held on for a nonsection win over Ellwood City Lincoln.
“We got out to a big lead and I thought our kids played well,” Lancers coach Jim Smiley said.
Joey Fontana and Mike Conglose recorded 15 points and five assists each for Neshannock (9-10). Michael Richards and Bryce Kauffman contributed 10 markers apiece. Richards snared a game-high eight boards.
Chaz Roth paced the Wolverines (3-18) with 15 points.
The Lancers went 3-0 last week and now enter the final week of section play needing just a win over Shenango tomorrow to make the playoffs. If that happens, the Wildcats could still qualify for the postseason with a win over Laurel on Friday and a Summit Academy win over Neshannock the same night.
“It was a good week for us,” Smiley said. “You can never get enough positive reinforcement.”
If Shenango tops Neshannock, the Lancers are eliminated from playoff contention as the Wildcats won the first encounter.
