'Canes struggle before prevailing at Ambridge

The New Castle High boys basketball team started slow, but finished strong against Ambridge in a 55-39 WPIAL Section 2-4A road victory Friday night.
The section-leading Red Hurricane (11-1 in league play, 17-2 overall) trailed 19-11 after one quarter, but went ahead 27-25 at the half. The game remained tight until the fourth quarter, when the Bridgers (4-8, 7-12) were outscored 14-3.
Three players placed in double figures for the 'Canes with 13 points apiece — Garrett Farah, Te-Quawn Stewart and Marcus Hooker.
Hooker also had nine rebounds, while Farah added three assists and nine steals. New Castle was 22 of 45 percent from the field 48 (percent) and was outrebounded 29-25.
Nick Campalong led Ambridge with 12 points, Matt Puppich added 11 and Aaron Hilzendeger 10.
New Castle hosts Beaver on Tuesday night before ending section play at Beaver Falls next Friday.
