New Castle falls to Blackhawk
New Castle (34) Vs. Blackhawk (69)
Jan 23, 2017
The Lady Cougars made 13 3-pointers and pulled away for a 69-34 Section 2-4A home win over the Lady 'Canes.
New Castle (2-6, 6-10) trailed 17-7 after one quarter and 35-12 at the half.
"The score doesn't say how the game actually looked," said first-year Lady 'Canes coach Kara Joseph. "We contested every shot. They're pure shooters, they can shoot.
"Giving up 13 3s isn't something we want to do. We're still learning and improving every day. You can see that out there."
Kayla Harvey led New Castle with 12 points, while pulling down eight rebounds. Lindsay Frabotta and Mariah Shepherd netted eight points apiece for the Lady 'Canes. Frabotta added 10 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.
"Frabotta had an overall good game," Joseph said. "She was just all over the place. That's all I ask is for everyone to give their all."
Mady Aulbach tossed in a game-best 23 markers for Blackhawk (8-0, 9-7).
New Castle returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Hopewell in a section matchup. It's a pink-out game and there will be 300 T-shirts given away to fans in attendance.
There is no JV game set between the squads.
